Unless UK law specifically states that its citizens are required to hold valid UK passports for re-rentry into the UK, you should be allowed back in. You should carry documents proving your UK citizenship, such as your birth certificate. In some countries, the immigration entry form spefically asks if you are a citizen traveling on another passport, to make the process for dual citizens easier.

I suggest that you bring as much documentation of your UK citizenship as you can. But the worse case scenario is that they don't recognise you as a UK citizen and stamp your Aussie passport for a 6 months stay. If this happens, you will be allowed to enter the UK but you must go to the immigration office asap to clarify your position as a UK citizen. If you don't, you might find yourself being put in the position as an overstayer, when you actually aren't.

hallo,
don't worry
United Kingdom visa is not required for citizens of Australia for a stay up to 90 days.
so, even with your ozzi passport you'll have no problem.

If you're travelling from Australia to the UK with dual citizenship (Australia/UK) you are supposed to fly out of Australia on your Australian passport and enter the UK on your UK one.

The UK one when entering the UK one will mean that you can bypass immigration and get automatic entry (while if you're just going on your Australian one you may need to fill out extra forms and such). It is prefered to enter a country of nationality with the countries' passport if you have one as that way they can track your movements as well.

If you do get stopped at immigration (at the UK checkpoints) you won't have protection as a UK citizen (your birth certificate won't do quite as well nor will any citizenship papers and if you get asked questions you can use the defence that you're a British citizen but they will ask why you haven't got a UK passport, then they'll think you're trying to stay on fraudulently if you produce the documents). You'll go through as an Australian and be subject to the terms and conditions that Australians are (meaning you can only stay for a maximum of 6 months days with no access to public funds).

I do know of British-Australian citizens who travel to the UK on their Australian passports and have had no trouble. I myself have done this once or twice in the past.

usually the law says, that one must use its own passport to enter the country of birth,if you have a very good reason?as to why you do not have you british passport? you might be able to enter, but? the best thing is to get your passport renewed, upon entering the UK, they will see your place of birth on your Australian passport,
since you were born there? get your UK passport..... to avoid problems,
how can they stop you? you are not using your passport, that is how......since you are british and to claim it? one must use the UK passport.

I am british born and hold a valid british passport. After living in Australia for 23yrs i became an Australian citizen and also hold an australian passport. Does this mean i have dual nationality? I am so confused and cannot find clarification anywhere... Thanking you in antisipation.
