You might try contacting the German Embassy in Washington, DC; perhaps they can help. Or, if there is a German Consulate nearby, try them as well.
I'm not familiar enough about Germany - was Wetzlar in East or West Germany in 1955? If it was in East Germany, you may find it to be a little more difficult as documentation may not have been as well preserved. Good luck!! |

you can conntact the standesamt in Wetzlar . They gonna send you one .a international birthcertification from germany is 7 € shipping is inside germany free. I don_'t know if they charge you to send it to the usa

You would need to contact whatever department in Germany handles all records such as births, deaths etc. If you no longer live there, they would tell you what type of proof you would need to send to get a certified copy.
Maybe someone from Germany will be online with Yahoo answers and could tell you the name of the department. |

If you are now a US citizen, contact the American Citizen Services section of the US embassy or consulate nearest Wetzlar. They will tell you how to get the document you need.

I would need a bit more information here such as, where do you live now.
My son was born in Germany, but is a US citizen. If we loose his birth certificate, it is my understanding that we would have to go to the consulate to get a replacement (we live in the USA now)
