Hi - I shipped something to India, and Customs is asking for a "Catalog" of the products I shipped. Is this normal - and are they referring to something that is like a Magazine/Catalog.

It is an itemized list of the contents of the shipment. That way they can see if what you wrote and what the x-ray shows are the same. It will also give them an idea of all taxable items if ever. |

You didn't specify which Customs is doing the asking. If it's US Customs, you have to declare what you're shipping. Your "something" is a bit vague. On the export declaration, you may have been vague, too. "Machine parts" may not be as clear to someone as "Millermatic Model ___ TIG welding machine." So they are merely trying to get clarification from you about the "something" you're sending to India. If you're sending more than one item, they may ask for an itemized inventory, probably similar to what you told the shipping company you're sending.
Sadly, the best place to get information on Customs requirements is from the folks who are doing the asking. If Customs is asking you for information, putting your question here won't help you. You really need to work with the Customs who is doing the asking. If you visit their office personally, make sure you bring some ID, like your driver's license or passport, so they can be sure you are the right person to discuss the shipment. |

They are asking for a list of all items included in your shipment, which is quite usual to be asked by customs. |
