Go to a school that traditionally produces a lot of Foreign Service Officers (Jesuit, Ivy League or top Liberal Arts school for example). Get good grades in a Liberal Arts major that includes Political Science, International Relations and Economics courses and learn either a non-European language or French. Take the Foreign Service exam, join the Foreign Service and work your way up.
Or you can get to know a future President give them a lot of money (in campaign help) and when they are elected, ask them for an appointment.
Either way is a long shot (Ambassador is considered a high rank like General or Admiral), but the first way is something that you will have a lot more control over (and a good job along the way). Good luck! Check out the state department web page for more info. |

Ambassadors are political appointees, generally the best way to become one is to become friends with an influential person, either by genuine friendship or through political favours/donations. You also may want to have some modicum of qualifications for the job, these include knowledge of foreign languages, as well as a graduate degree of some type, and possibly experience working somewhere like the State Department or the United Nations. |

Well if your like a high school senior or something, try to keep up on all the current events. You probably want to major in something like global communications and be taking a language. |
