I was born in the u.k in 1965 and i have a copy of my birth cirtificate can i have the british passport?

my mother is british and she is living in the u.k now.there is no contact between us.my father was born in iraq but he had the british citizenship in 1975 .he has my original birth cirtificate but he can not send it to me .i live in iraq now .can i have the british passport from the british embassy in syria?

Prior to 1983
Prior to 1983, as a general rule British nationality could only be transmitted from the father through one generation only, and parents were required to be married. See History of British nationality law.

The requirements you need to meet

To register as a British citizen you must:

have been born after 7 February 1961 but before 1 January 1983; and
have been born to a mother who was a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies at the time of your birth and you would have been a citizen of the United Kingdom and Colonies by descent if it had been possible for women to pass this citizenship on to their children in the same way as men :

You should be able to if you go to a British Embassy and request one.
That's what I did, but it may work differently in Iraq.

Can he fax it? If he could then you can go to the embassy and request this. Since you were born in th UK and both parents were citizens you are qualified to be a citizen as well. Go to the embassy and talk to them and they may be able to help you.
