I am a British citizen but am looking to buy a 1 bed apartment on the Black Sea coast, as properties in Britain are so expensive. I would use it as a holiday home at first, but I do not want to rent it out as I don't want it to get ruined. Can I qualify for Bulgarian citizenship because I've bought a property there?

On the basis of property you cannot get a citizenship. I am Bulgarian and I didn't get the British citizenship because I bought a house in UK.
It's based on the time period you spend in the country. You have to live in Bulgaria for minimum of 5 years- same as in UK |

No. Citizenship is tied to (fairly strict) residency requirements. Merely owning a property there won't do it.
But remember that Bulgaria joined the EU this year. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to spend as much time there as you want. |

They are in the EU now so I think due to the freedom of movement policy we have you can legitimately move there neway just as you would be able to move to France or Germany, check on this though because I have a feeling that at the moment bulgaria and Romania have restricted movement until 2012 but i'm not sure. this actually will have to be your primary place of living . You would need to work there , have a bank account , etc the whole nine yards. To even be considered for citizenship |

Purchasing and owning property does not grant you citizenship. Although applications for citizenship might take into account how much investment you have made in that country. |

Well, I suppose the answer is no. However, and looking at how house purchasing in the UK, and elsewhere, is soaring out of the reach of many as a direct resulf speculators, we go and do it to the Bulgarians as well.
Nw that is going to help the Country enormously... |

I think you have to be living and working there or at least residing there permanently to qualify for citizenship.
