If I renew my old Israeli passport, do I get my old passport back?

I have an Israeli passport that is almost as old as I am. To renew the passport (they send a new one) I have to submit my old passport. Will the Israeli Embassy send me back my old, canceled passport or do they keep it? I'm curious because it is quite the memento and I might not want to give it up. Does anyone know from experience?

When I renewed my Israeli passport, the Consulate sent the new one along with the old one. The difference was that they had cut off one of the corners of the document.
