If a US citizen is getting abused in a foreign country?

If a US citizen is getting abused in a foreign country?

I'm a US citizen by birth, my parents are naturalized.
I've lived there my whole life but a couple months ago we moved to a different country - I'm 16, turning 17 this summer.

Two weeks ago, my father beat me. He slapped me in the face, then shoved me down and kicked my head and ribs. The kicks to my head made it bleed really badly and I ran out of the house to my friend's house - her parents are friends with mine. They didn't call the police, but did call an ambulance - I had to get stitches. They lied and said I fell (so my ribs weren't treated, only my head).

I'm not stupid - that's criminal assault and battery. I'm being home schooled right now and can't tell anyone - they never let me leave the house.

What should I do?? Can the US embassy do anything here?

oh well i'm leaving next year anyways for university....
hopefully it won't happen again.

No, the U.S. authoritizies has no juristiction in other countries.

The laws of the country which you are in are the relevant laws in this case. What may be "assault & battery" under US or various state laws can be an entirely different matter in another country. In fact, if you are in a muslim country, your father is probably entirely within his legal rights and you have absolutely nothing to say about it.

Since it is a matter of local laws, the US can do nothing whatsoever. Anyone present in a country is subject to that country's laws, customs, etc. Unless you have a case under local law there and can get to that country's Child Protective Services or local equivalent, or file a complaint with the equivalent of the Public Prosecutor, you have no grounds for complaint as long as you remain in that country. As a minor, you cannot travel internationally by yourself -- have to be accompanied by parents.

No they cannot unfortunately. If he returns to the US he will be prosecuted but where you are you are subject to the laws of that country. I'm pretty sure they have laws against assault as well though that law is pretty much universal.

Sadly, no. This crime is not severe enough for it to enact an international warrant. Your dad can only be tried by the law of th ecurrent country you are in.

Yes, you are protected.
I would suggest you write down your story and send it to as many people as possible, who might have authority. The first one being to your embassy.
