If someone staying in US(indian citizen) marries a girl in India, and abandons her in India, what can be done?

I know a guy who is working in US on H1B, and he went to india to get married. He brought his wife to US, and then tortured her mentally. Also, his parents were involved in all this. Recently he went back to india, and he and his parents harassed the girl, and her parents. He left her in india, and now seeks a divorce. What can the girl do legally, while being in india? Any advice would be really appreciated.

I'm not sure but it sounds like she needs to divorce him if he is that big of a pig. she does not need someone like that in her life she is better than this and deserves more.

Let the guy divorce her as she gains in 2 ways. First she gets rid of the guy and secondly under Indian law he has to return any dowry her parents paid him. You did not give enough information to say any more than this. also there are always 2 sides to any story.

If she can afford the fare back to the States and she can secure living accommodations she could return and perhaps fall in love with a United States citizen then marry him after her divorce or annulment from her current husband and file a petition for permanent residency.

Hehe. Do the same thing! Hire someone with power like a police, FBI, or anyone that could help this girl out and have them tortured like they did to this girl. Give her bodyguards in case her husband's family tries to hurt her again. Seek the best lawyer and bring her husband including his parents to jail.

This would be covered by India law not US law, and their customs often allow for this kind of behavior. Too bad she is not in the US things might be a bit different.

It all depends on what she wants.

If she wants a divorce, she can just accept and stay in India. If she wants to live in the US, she can live here obviously since she's still married. She could still become a US citizen while living here after the divorce.

If she's hoping the Indian government will step in, they can't. Unfortunately, the husband will have his family backing him in court about the abuse. Also that depends if she wants to go that far, or if she just wants to get out of it now and move on.

she can file an abuse lawsuite, and like everyone else in a divorce, she'll need a lawyer... hopefully they agreed on a prenumptual agreement prior to marrying!
