Heeeeeeeeeeelp !!!,am an international student in the States and this is my 3rd semester.I have never worked on campus neither off campus,but now my uncle financing my educations business is falling,and now basic necessities like my rent,cell phone bill has to be paid.I went to the international students office to get a letter to apply for a SS number,the lady says i should get an on campus job first,but this on-campus job is non existing.I have combed the entire school for about 3 months searching for any available job,but to no avail.(my school is non boarding) and so most of this jobs have been amassed by town folks and very,very few students.Even cafeteria,restaurants,library,which is known in other schools to be for student workers have been grabbed by outsiders.I cant find any job on campus and this lady will not let me file for hardship to because she said i came to enquire of an SS number first.No jobs on campus for letter,no help for hardship to,what can i do.Am running into deep s**** as the semester is almost about 1 and half months to end.Also should filing of hardship have to involve NOTARIZATION.This lady wants a notarization,also what documents can serve as prove to show that am in a financial hardship and need Work authorization or help ASAP? What can i do to convince this dreadful International students office lady? Am broke and very unhappy.My friends (f-1 students) in other schools are all having nice times with thier SS,on and off campus jobs on vacation,but me suffering sooo much.Is it a crime to come to the US on a students visa.I have never lacked money until my uncles business went on recession.Please help me.I need advice on what to do.

I am not sure what this lady is saying or why she is giving you a hard time, but you are legally entitled to work part time and to get a SSN. IF you need paperwork from the college and she won't give it to you, go to her supervisor.
YOu might just go down to the SS office and apply with your F1 visa. |
