No UK visa is valid only for UK

No, however if you are student in the UK, they will let you get a visa from one of schengen embassies in London and not ask to apply from Peking. Same for Ireland.

You need to apply for a multi European one that will allow you to travel to any country within Europe. I have been told that these are slightly cheaper that a standard one to a set country. Your Embassy will advise you or indeed go the British Embassy. Now if you were a citizen of England, you could travel to anywhere in Europe and would not need a visa, so it may be worth you looking in to obtaining an English passport or a dual passport

no, it is not, UK is in the European zone but not in the schengen zone..; nor is is Switzerland yet.....
