I mean the UN is pointless if just one person ( country ) can override everyone else right? Shouldn't it strictly be majority rules?

There is no veto in the General Assembly.
Since actions of the Security Council involve the expenditure of money -- tax money paid by their citizens -- don't you think the rulers of those who finance the UN ought to have a veto?
Who said anything about democracy in international law?
1) The whole idea is to keep the peace, not to implement the will of the majority of the world. In the latter case, we'd probably all be dead.
2) The UN was devised as a talk shop, on the basis that maintaining a dialogue would help keep people from resorting to war.
3) Most of the UN members are not democracies. They are dictatorships, theocracies, anarchies. But not democracies. Where do you live anyway? |

It was said by a late musician from Nigeria, FELA "Dis-united United Nations where one veto vote is equal to 92 or more". Isreal & Lebanon, Iraq & Iran, U.K. and Argentina. My dear, it is not even worth your time. The UN is simply not what it seems. He who pays the piper, dictates the tune so when individuals start having votes in UN, depending on how much they can contribute, maybe we the ultra-wealthy will also have veto votes! UN is a joke. |

We have one vote in the General Assembly and Pay over 22% of all UN monies received.
One Vote in the Security Council.
Now tell me that is fair?
