I am an Indian and I am seeking job opportunities in the Hotel Industry in Kuwait. I want to know is it necessary to deposit my passport in the custody of my employer if I am going to work there? Is it safe and okay as my passport is my and my country's personal property?

To be frank, if your employer gives you a job in return for your passport, it's outright bad news because you are at his/her mercy with no passport with you. You cant prove who you are without a passport.
As you have asked, it may be necessary if the employer wants it that way. But I dont believe anyone else may have anything to do with your passport except Kuwait Immigration when you arrive in Kuwait.
Your passport is not your property, but that of the issuing government.
As a safer bet, get in touch with Kuwait embassy in India and ask if any Kuwait law requires foreign nationals to hand over their passports to their employers. |

I would contact the Kuwait Consulate and check with them. It maybe part of the visa agreement. If it is not, I would rethink your plans to work there. |
