When you apply for a USA visa in the US Embassy in the Philippines you're required to pay USD 100. not knowing if you'll be given or not given a VISA. is it reason enough, or they were ust raising some cash from it?

It is one method that the State Department uses to keep out impoverished illegal aliens. To get a visa you must prove that you are currently employed in your native country. Meaning that you will have the cash to buy a visa. Not having the money means that you are not employed and are only trying to get in the USA an as illegal immigrant.
Few know but when a visitior to the USA over stays his/her visa the official that granted the VISA is reprimanded. |

Whether you get the Visa or not, someone (sometimes many someones) has to do the work. You are contributing toward the salaries of this person (those persons>). You probably aren't paying enough to pay the entire salary. |

I'm sure there are some costs for processing the application as well as for the cost of having an embassy staffed with support and security personnel. The fee could be also used to "weed out" those that aren't serious about using the visa. |

You arent the only person applying. There are millions, and millions of people applying. Who should pay for that? The USA. No. |

The Embassies has to do an International search of each person, It takes time, personnel, and not to forget all other cost to be there. Don't apply if you can't afford it, period, stop whining. |

I dunno, I've never needed any kind of visa to live anywhere *and I've lived in three countries, though the two in europe were because that's where the US military wanted us* But it doesn't sound fair but if you really think about it there's some sense to it. They have sallaries to pay weather or not your application is accepted and the work done to look at the application still requires payment, weather or not it was accepted.
To the person that said those who cannot pay are trying to get in as illegal immagrants. If they're there, trying to apply the legal way, they're not rying to do anything illegal if they cannot pay. Dude, just because a person is poor does not mean that they are a criminal. |
