how to apply for a british passport for my 16 year old son, his father has a british passport (born in the UK), I have a south african passport. My son was born out of wedlock and I never married his father?

Yes your son is eligible for a UK passport if he can prove that his father is a UK citizen. If you were never married to this person then legally he can still claim to be your son's father(Proof is needed in what ever form)

If I understand your question correctly, your son was born outside the UK, to a father who is a British citizen and was born in the UK. The father is therefore a british citizen otherwise than by descent. He can therefore pass on british citizenship to a son born outside the UK. However this is not always the case with unmarried parents where the child was born before 2002. I can't find the rules on this, so your best bet is to apply or ask the embassy. |

If your sons birth was registerd in the UK then he will be able to obtain a British passport |

Hi, i`m not sure.
Being a british, i am married to a Nigerian woman and living in Germany and soon as my daughter was born i got her a British passport, so i would think it may be up to the father of your son to get a passport for him or at least get for him to contact the British Embassy in South Africa or where ever you and your son lives. |

NO. what gives him any rights to anything my birth place has to offer you never got married? and in any case we only have your word he is the "farther" only a genetic test would prove that one way or another, so get your evidence first then act, but please do not assume anything as we are full to the brim with aliens already. |
