I don't think so. Whites already have the power and when Black Power became a popular phrase, the civil rights movement was just taking off. I see it as more a way of saying that Blacks are equal.
If people are promoting this saying today, they might have a different reason for saying it. In that case, it is no different from saying White Power. It should be People Power or Humanity Power. Why make a distinction except to put one group over the next. It's sort of like when I taught in a predominately Black school and I wouldn't let my Black students use the n-word. They told me they should be able to say it to each other, but they agreed my White students should be forbidden from saying it. I told them I don't have two sets of rules, one for Whites and one for Blacks, and they shouldn't promote that practice. They seemed to understand me and at least respect my point of view, though I'm sure they continued to use the n-word outside of my earshot. |

Saying "black power" is a statement of 'rising up' after being oppressed.

throughout history white power meant, that these racist group have the power to kill, rape, abuse, and just treat blacks like slaves. oh and don't forget that the KKK uses the term "White Power". black power means that they are not going to let these white racist groups destroy them emotionally, mentally, and physically anymore. and black power means you have the courage to fight back and to not let any race break them down because blacks are not scared anymore. |
