I know to get a tourist visa to enter the US from Trinidad and Tobago you do need a bank statement, and a letter from the person you are visisting. A friend wants to come to visit for two or three weeks in the US and they said the embassy said they need a bank statement showing they have 10,000 TTs or around 1,500 USD to get a visa for the two to three week vacation.
We were going to go half on the plane ticket and other than that, money was never asked for so I'm wondering if this is procedure or not and what other documents/fees are associated with getting a tourist visa into the US. Additional Details So are you saying that I can qualify as the "sponser" as in I can show MY bank statement?

Please listen, everyone: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SPONSOR FOR A TOURIST VISA! And, there is no set required amount of money in the bank to get a tourist visa, either. Every case is evaluated individually, and each applicant must convince a consular officer that they intend to return home after a short visit to the U.S.
Having done tens of thousands of visa interviews, I can tell you that showing a bank statement does not really come into play; nor does showing a letter from some real or imagined "sponsor" who somehow "guarantees" that they foreigner will return home.
Much more helpful will be a demonstration of your ties to Trinidad -- evidence of a stable job, a home, travel to other countries, good family ties, etc. Be warned, however, if many of your fellow countrymen have been bad guests -- violated our laws, stayed illegally, etc -- it may reflect badly on the consul's willingness to take a chance on you. |

God, I hope so. I think it should be a huge sum for them to enter the USA. |

the general requirement is that the visitor or his/her sponsor has sufficient funds for expenses in the US. Embassies require proof of such funds before a visa can be issued. |
