There is one US embassy in the UK; it is in London. There is also a US consulate in Belfast, and in Edinburgh, as well as an office in Cardiff. See below:

Embassy - A building containing the offices of an ambassador and staff.
Consulate - The residence or official premises of a consul.
There is only one Ambassador certified to each country, so only one Embassy.
Note, there can be more than one Embassy, but it is rare. Germany had two US Embassies during the transition from Bonn to Berlin. |

There is only one embassy for each country, but I'm sure England has some US Consulates as well. Check out this site. It lists all the embassies and consulates of the US to other countries, as well as all the embassies and consulates of other countries to the US. I believe it also lists embassies and consulates of other countries to countries around the world. It includes websites, addresses, and phone numbers.

Embassies are only for diplomatic relations with the host countries, consulates deal with regular citizens of the host country and the parent country who are current in the host... so there would only be 1 Embassy in every country, and several consulates.
There are 11 consulates in the UK, and 1 Embassy, the Embassy also has consular offices...
just thought I'd point this out because it seems several people are confused here about what an Embassy is |

Each country can only have one embassy and they're all situated in the capital, including America's which is on Grosvenor Sq. - surrounded by concrete blocks and armed police for the last 5 years. |

Pauline - hello,
Only one embassy per country exists in any country on earth. But the country may have any number of consul or offices - offices that provide visa functions, representation (on a somewhat limited scale) for the country's citizens and others seeking contact with your country. If you're wondering about some form of assistance from your embassy, such as getting a passport replaced, a visa to visit the US (if you're traveling on a passport other than American) or to obtain an ETD - emergency travel document, which allows you to travel immediately back to the US if you've lost your passport... then any of the consulates or consular offices can give you the help you need. This means that you don't have to travel to London for the services - services which are usually provided by the US State Department. |
