Issue date on a new passport.?

My passport got damaged accidently. So I am going to make a new passport. But my question is issue date on a new passport.
Is the issue date on a new passport a new issue date(current) or same old issue date from damaged passport?
I want current date on issue date.
If I want to contact a person about this question which office should I go? I am living in Sacramento california. I know post office and city hall they only recieve passport application but no answer about that. Please help me.

You get a new issue date and a new passport number.

The passport office of the federal goverment will decide the issue date. To the best of my knowledge, you have no control over this.

The issue date will be the day they make the new ppt, which will be close to the date you pick it up/get it back. It will be the date they actually print it. Then, the date it expires will coincide with the new issue date.
