I am a Canadian - born and bred and my boyfriend lives in the U.S. I will eventually be moving there and was wondering what is the easiest way for me to do this. I have a BA from a university in Canada and intend on staying a long time in the U.S.

The easiest visa to get is a "fiancee" visa. Takes the shortest time to get after application, requires only minimal documentation, and lets you stay in the country for 9 months to get married. Once married, you can apply for a change to permanent resident status as a spouse of a US citizen, and you don't have to leave the country while the status change is being processed. IF you're going to marry your boyfriend, this is the best way to go. |

It shouldnt be too hard. You probably won't get any answers on here so I would say it's best to have your boyfriend go to a courthouse and you go to your courthouse and get the information.
Applying for a work Visa is a great start. |

You should see if you qualify for a TN-1 visa which would allow you to live and work in the US for 3 years I think. There are also other types of work visa's available.
Otherwise you could go the fiance visa route, but the requirements of the fiance visa are marriage within 90 days of entry (NOT 9 months as a previous poster mentioned).
Unfortunately you will need some type of visa to live and work in the US. |
