My boyfriend is from El Salvador, we are planning to get married and I want to live with him in El Salvador, I am from the UK, what visa do I need to live their as his wife? I can't seem to find anything! I have tried calling the embassy, but they have been no help! Thanks!

He's a citizen of El Salvador? HE has to apply for a visa for his wife. Actually, in the case of El Salvador, you enter on a tourist visa, then go to change your status with the visa application. He needs his proof of citizenship & proof of marriage, and you need your passport, etc.
And by the way, embassies handle diplomatic relations with the government of the country they are in. Embassies do not handle visa or immigration issues, tourist matters, etc. That's what the consulate is for. Never contact an embassy! You have to go to the consulate.
El Salvador is a relative newcomer to the list of expat destinations, but apparently the country is attracting quite a few expats, and quite a bit of investment. You will find other expats there, but of course, you will need to speak Spanish. |

Still, as the native of the country....and given that country and him being the man...
HE should be doing the work of finding the facts, and doing all the running around,
he should be better placed to locate the right people in any case...
Given the implications of the culture link above, it could also be why 'you' are being given the run around.. Maybe a foreboding of your future life, speaking of which...
People when moving between any two cultures undergo culture shock.. are you ready ?
Even UK to US and or back, (despite apparently speaking a similar language),
let alone from a more protestant english one to a more catholic/southern spanish one.
I do trust that you have spent sometime down there already,
and are really ready to integrate and accept the new way of life.
So maybe go chase up your future other half.. or better threaten to go down there and do the job yourself (see if that does not embarress him into action ! - use the 'weakness' to your advantage !)

Have you tried asking in YA in (US-)Spanish rather than on the english language YA ?
