Moving from the US to UK?
|
I'm planning on moving to England in March to live with my boyfriend. We've looked over the immigration sites, read the forms and conditions, etc. But still are unsure of where we fall under. Would we be unmarried partners? I mean, we're partners... and unmarried. lol Also, how do I get a hold of a live person when I call a consulate number at an embassy? All I've gotten is machines and it'd be nice if someone would just help me and answer my questions. Does anybody have any useful answers for me? Please, I'd very much appreciate it. Additional Details No, it's proving impossible to get any information or have anybody help us.

My friend, you do have to be bold and enterprising -- flat out creative.
England is a fine place, a bit backward but no less a fine place. I lived there two years, just 60 or so miles northeast of London.
I do have to suppose you already have your passport. I have to suppose again that you have talked with the U.S. Immigration Office so that they can give you information as well.
You are and will be working with two primary arms of federal government: U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Department of State.
Now observe: things today are wack. You need only know this and then devise clever ways to 'legally' work round these sorts of things, see?
Now, here's why I say that you must be daring: since phones don't work [for you, that is, because you are not a priority], your next best option is to find those organizations that deal directly with this sort of thing -- say, a news agency, say, your local broadcast affiliate with ABC, NBC, or CBS... 'See?
Next, if that fails, you will have already been planning a flight to Washington DC, correct? Sure you will have!
And you will have already learned as many questions as possible before making the trip to DC, right? 'Because you would not want to fly all the way to DC, get there at the British embassy or American Consulate and they won't allow you any information.
And there you'd be --'have flown all the way there just to be stone-walled by some embassy bureaucrat.
You will want to check with both the American and the British embassy. Don't rely solely on phones. Do some leg work.
Little chance is there that you will have the opportunity to speak with anyone in the gigantic, heavily-secured Department of State offices either. They are right therein DC, too, just a block from George Washington University -- but -- you 'can' get access to George Washington University's schools of foreign relations or schools of government, or Georgetown University's schools. Or American University's schools.
Set up an appointment with them by phone -- or -- again -- fly to Washington DC.
These three universities know all there is about foreign relations, each centered right there in DC. American University even has campuses overseas... See? Contact them 'by phone'.
You may be simply phoning the wrong offices for what you want to do: the answers may be but within a blink of an eye.
See what I mean? -- you have to be enterprising.
Stop relying so heavily upon phones, though...
People are either asleep today in the government or private agency call centers or just simply over-taxed or simply care not to answer the phones. Today their prime objectives are with foreign relations and international stateship and we should add, terrorist threats.
So be enterprising and above all, be patient but tactical. |
