For Americans travelling to Canada all the kid need is birth certificate, I think its the same for Canadians! If you just to be on the safe take your daughters passport with you if you don't have one yet get one made! In this way there is no problem at all and you can even travel to other countries!

You should have her name added in your passport, if she does not have a passport already. That way you can be sure. Also, make sure you get a letter from the father, if he is not traveling with you, giving his consent for you to travel with the child. If you do not have that document, you may have a massive problem
