My grandpa born in Pondichery, me & my dad born in gujarat, is there r chances 4 me to get french nationality?

My grandpa born in Sellipattu, village in pondicherry as pondy is a french union territory my friends said that there are possibilities. My grandpa is passed away few years ago @ age of 99. I don't have his birth certificate but my grandma is with me and now i reside in Pondicherry for more than 12 years.

Since your grandfather was born in a former French colony which became independent of France, the answer is no. Once a country becomes independent, or in this case absorbed or unionised, all citizens who have no other affiliation with France lose their French nationality and become citizens of the successor country. In your case, your grandfather, through birth in Pondichery, was a French citizen but through Pondichery becoming part of India, he lost his French nationality and become a sole citizen of India. If your grandfather was born in France, then it would be a different story.

If your grandfather was born in European France (excluding colonies) then your father would be a citizen of France as he would be born to a French citizen. And if this is the case and one of your parents was born in a French colony or territory, you would also be a citizen of France due to being born to French citizen parents. But if your grandfather was not born in mainland France, then this would not be the case as he would have lost citizen upon Pondichery's independence, as he had no connection to France.

In a nutshell, if your grandfather became an Indian citizen after Pondichery's sovereignty was passed from France to India, you aren't a French citizen.

Anyway, you have to speak French to get the French nationality. New law.

at independance, many people rejected the french nationality, and in doing so? they did not transmite the nationalty trough their descendants, therefore your parents and you,
so now? it is too late for many, they opted to take back the Indian nationality,
there is still a big french community in Pondichery, but you must know that,
here is an article on that at this page:
