he can probably apply for you to become a resident. immediate families tend to get preferential treatment in the US i'm sure its the same in Australia.

I'm afraid not. Your son's permanent resident status doesn't grant familly members the right to work or live permanently in the country.
You're only option remains a tourist visa which gives you the right to remain for 6 months (no work).
There are a range of options for family migration but they all take time. Up to 2 years. Check out the link below to see what they are.
