If you are from a country participating in the Visa Waiver Program and you have no other problems you do not need anything but a passport.( http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html ).
Otherwise you will usually need a pasport and a visa. |

It depends alot on where you are from. What country. But you will need a visa of course. To obtain that visa though you may need to prove that you have sufficient ties in your home country to convince the authorities that you will return home after your visit. Also sometimes you have to prove that you have enough money in a bank account to support yourself while here. You have to have a detailed itinerary of how and where you plan on spending your time in the USA. It is best if you go to the US Embassy in your country and they will tell you what all you need.
