Passport for my newborn?

My baby will be born in South Africa next year and we are planning to return to the US after wards, I heard newborns need a passport, the state dept website was unhelpful when it came to babies. Does anyone know if the baby can travel on my passport?

You will need to register your newborn child as a US citizen first. then you can apply for a passport. Be aware that the process may take some time.
It is probably best to contact the embassy and advise them of your plans. http://southafrica.usembassy.gov/

All children under 16 must apply in person . . . the requirements are listed in the link. I'm assuming you are a U.S. citizen who will be traveling abroad.

your baby cannot travel on you passport, all children must have their own passport,it is the law now.
