Hi. I was born in Calgary, AB in 1986 to a single American mother. However, my family moved to America in 1988, where I have lived ever since. I am an American citizen, but my question pertains to whether or not I have Canadian citizenship as well. Also, I am considering taking a trip to Calgary this summer, either way, I will still need an American passport, correct?

Canadian citizenship law states that a person born in Canada on or after February 14, 1977, regardless of the nationalities of the parents, acquires Canadian citizenship . There are, however, exceptions to this law, including children born to diplomatic personnel and children of parents who were not legal residents in Canada at the time of the birth. So it depends on why your mother was in Canada when you were born. Here is more:

you might have to reapply for Canadian citizenship, even though u were born there but since u moved your status changed. But yeah dual citizenship is possible |

I think .. you can
My friend also have 2 citizenship , he is Canadian with Canadian citizenship and when he moved to UK cause he got a job in UK then he has UK Citizenship after 3 years work in UK. |
