Of COURSE you need a new photo. Get the renewal paperwork at any Post Office and READ THE RULES... it clearly states what you need to send in when you renew the passport. One of the logical reasons for renewing a passport every 10 years is to get a new photo of you so they know what you look like now... 10 years later.

Besides that... it makes it easier to identify you when the plane crashes and they find your passport and your head... THAT IS A SERIOUS ANSWER. If you are in a plane that is preparing for a crash landing, they will have you TAPE YOUR PASSPORT TO YOUR CHEST... so they can identify the body.

For a US passport the photo should be 2" X 2" with the measurement from the chin to the top of the head being 1" - 1 3/8". It should be a color photo against a white or off-white background. There should be no head covering, or dark glasses.

If you were born in Canada, you must provide an original of either:

a Canadian birth certificate (issued in Canada by the province or territory of your birth), or
a Certificate of Canadian Citizenship.
If you were born outside of Canada, you must provide one of the four Canadian citizenship documents below:

Dual citizenship
Canadian law permits Canadians to have more than one nationality. However, your Canadian citizenship may not be recognized in the country of your other citizenship, and the authorities of that country may prevent Canada from providing you with consular assistance. This is especially true if you did not use your Canadian passport when entering that country.

Should You Apply for a Passport Renewal by Mail using Form DS-82?
YES, If Youâ€¦

1. Already have a passport that is not damaged; and
2. Received it within the past 15 years; and
3. Were at least age 16 when it was issued; and
4. Still have the same name as in passport (or you can legally document your name change).
