Requirements for US citizen marrying in Manila Church?

My US citizen hubby & i are civilly married here in US. We're going to Manila to get married in Church. Church requires certificate of non-marriage from me and affidavit of legal capacity to contract marriage from US Embassy in the Phils. Is there a way to get that from here? We're trying to save time as by the time we get home, in less than 5 days we're getting married in Church. With all the documents needed, it might not be enough time. Is it the same document requirements considering we're already married here?

i was really lucky coz i'm a protestant. when we went home to cebu to get married in the church (was already married to my american husband in canada), i only needed to talk to my pastor and have him agree to do the ceremony without going through all the legal hoopla coz we're already married.

your best bet is to talk to your parish priest. it might be harder for catholics since they do things systematically... but either you talk to him or have one of your relatives already back home to do it. have it explained to the priest that you are already legally married (and have papers to prove it) but that you wanted to get married in the church. stress out the fact that the church wedding is just that... church wedding. it doesn't need to be legal since the legal stuff has already been done.

that way, you would get your answer directly from the source... plus, he'll be able to tell what they can or cannot do... and what you need to prepare.

You don't need that. You are already married. He can't possibly get a certificate saying he's free to marry when he's already married and you can't either. Take proof of your US civil wedding and tell the priest that you want to reaffirm your vows. This is done all the time.

Check out manila.usembassy.gov and go to the visa and citizens services section. there's a great deal of information on what Americans need to know and do to get married in the Philippines. You won't be able to do it from the US though.

You dnt have to do that. Go to the Phils embassy and submit ur marriage contract and fill up some forms they will advise u other requirements needed thats good as u r married in the Phils. DONT FORGET TO AUNTHENTICATE all papers from the embassy in US. Then present it to the church. What u really need is just a blessing from the church.
