Should my Chilean boyfriend tell US Consular Officials that he is coming to the US for the birth of our baby?

I am pregnant and am helping my boyfriend, who is NOT a U.S. citizen and lives in Chile, get a visa in order to come to the States to see the birth of our baby. He would come for about 8 weeks, after which I am moving to Chile to live with him. Is it a good idea to tell officials at the consulate the truth about why he is coming to visit?

It's NEVER a good idea to lie. Given that fact, the Consular Officer might find the truth refreshing for a change. To improve his chances he might want to present evidence of your impending move to Chile. For instances, actions he's taken to get YOU a residence visa for Chile. Surely, if you're going, he must have started the process by now.

Any fraud in immigration issues, can and will result in a lifetime ban for entering the United States.

He will have to prove that he intends to return there when the visit is complete. He will be required to prove that he has a home to return to, employment, adequate funds for the visit.
