Sufficient funds for tourist visa - how much is 'sufficient'?
|
I am wanting to travel to the philippines and stay there for up to 6 months. I know I have to apply for a 59 day visa before I go (and get it extended in increments thereafter) but I know they will ask to see 'sufficient funds' for my stay.
I have someone who is willing to let me stay with them for free (so effectively someone who can look after me and my interests when Im there) who can prove that to the embassy.
Knowing this, how much money do you think they will need to see?
I think I can probably raise £5000 by the time I visit the embassy. Would this be enough? Especially as seeing the average Filipino lives on 150 a month I hear.
Thx for your answers.

sounds plenty
a letter confirming your friend's generous offer would also be good
if they are like the UK immigration people they will also be looking at other things like how likely you are to work illegally, and whether you have ties to your home country to go back to. So if you have just sold your house and quit your job they will be suspicious |

Living costs for local citizens and sufficient funds for tourists are vastly different. You need to prove you have sufficient funds for all the ordinary "tourist stuff" -- prepaid round trip (or onward transportation) plane ticket, hotels, restaurant meals, signtseeing, ground transportation, etc.
It must jibe with your itinerary. E.g. If husband & wife were taking 2 kids to Orlando for a week to do Disneyworld/Epcot, etc, a measly little $300/day for 7 days won't be anywhere near enough! You will have to tell your plans and have sufficient funds for all of that. And access to whatever you might need in an emergency -- a good credit card, healthy bank account and ATM/debit card, etc.
Your proposed amount should be enough to pass muster for a 59-day visa. Remember, each extension requires proof of sufficient funds for the extension! |

Call the Embassy and ask.5000 should be more than enough though.Right now 5000 Pounds is 417,362.633 Philippine Peso. |

think that should be enough you have to convince them you have enough to support yourself and the things you plan to do whilst you are there as you will not legally be allowed to work. at least i think that is the case. |

They should state a specific amount somewhere on their immigration website or you could phone and ask.
When I went on a 12 month working holiday to Australia I had to have £2000 and had to provide evidence in the form of bank statements. We were allowed to work to support ourselves also |
