TEXAS SECEDE??????????

could and would texas really secede from the USA?

It is true that Texas could secede. They joined the Union after the civil war and knew what the cost would be if they ever tried to leave, so negotiated a treaty that ensures the right of Texas to leave the union.
However its not likely until its so full of Mexicans they can vote to make it independent and kick out the gringos. |

well, if you follow President Woodrow Wilson, then all groups and people have the right to their own sovereign nation.
However, unless an existing nation has a low status in the world or is not strong enough, any nation will fight the freedom fighters.
The cons for a nation to allow a section to secede usually out weighs the pros. especially for superpowers and hyperpowers like the US.
so an answer:
they could, but wont unless they have major international support along with internal support from the majority of texans. |

I think the question of secession was settled in 1865. Not that I'd miss Texas, understand, Bush would never have been president for one thing....
AND uh I hate to break it to you but Texas joined the US in 1845 not "after the Civil War"... "
The Presidential Proclamation declaring peace between the United States and Texas after the Civil War, dated August 20, 1866, states very clearly in the following passage that no state had the right to leave the Union (emphasis added in all capitals):
And whereas,
the President of the United States, by further proclamation issued on the second day of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-six, did promulgate and declare, that there no longer existed any armed resistance of misguided citizens, or others, to the authority of the United States in any, or in all the States before mentioned, excepting only the State of Texas, and did further promulgate and declare that the laws could be sustained and enforced in the several States before mentioned, except Texas, by the proper civil authorities, State, or Federal, and that the people of the said States, except Texas, are well and loyally disposed, and have conformed or will conform in their legislation to the condition of affairs growing out of the amendment to the Constitution of the United States, prohibiting slavery within the limits and jurisdiction of the United States;
And did further declare in the same proclamation THAT IT IS THE MANIFEST DETERMINATION OF THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT NO STATE, OF ITS OWN WILL, HAS A RIGHT OR POWER TO GO OUT OF OR SEPARATE ITSELF FROM, OR BE SEPARATED FROM THE AMERICAN UNION; and that, therefore, each State ought to remain and constitute an integral part of the United States;
On March 30, 1870, Congress passed the Act to admit the State of Texas to Representation in the Congress of the United States. Likewise, this act contains no language that would allow Texas to unilaterally withdraw from the United States. |

All Southern states should secede again. And they should do it right this time.
The South rocks. |

HOW TO BE MORE LIKE TEXANS:
Step 1: Unapologetically give the country a president that divides Americans and makes numerous public policy mistakes.
Step 2: Watch as the rest of the country elects a new president with different ideology to fix the problems the previous president helped create.
Step 3: ***** and moan when the new president has to take drastic measures in order to fix a drastic problem.
Step 4: Instead of gritting your teeth and dealing with policies you don't like, cry about it, and stir up rumors of succession. Be sure to forget that you helped subject most of the rest of the country to the same thing for the past eight years.
I don't think any respect will be left for Texans when this is over. I thought these people were supposed to be tough? They can't even handle their own medicine. |

Well, there would be another Civil War, so I think it wouldn't be worth it, no matter how stupid this world is becoming.
I say the world because I live in Chicago and see so many stupid things going on, and I'm from Bulgaria, there is stupid stuff too.
What do you guys think, am I good for the South, I've heard good things, like most of you guys still beleive in God, that awesome, here life is filled with athiests and evolutionists and I'm pretty sick of it. |
