Ask him to tell you what life was like under the Russians and the Soviet Union. Ask him to explain to you what it's really like to lose your freedom. Ask him about the Prague Spring of 1968 and the Soviet response. Ask him about Alexander Dubček.

Why wasn't there a referendum regarding placing the US radar in the Czech Republic.

Polls suggest that 2/3 of Czechs are against it. I'm from the Czech Republic and it pisses me off that my own government doesn't give a damn what its citizens think about such a sensitive issue.

This is a huge issue for Czechs. We had Russian troops stationed (occupying) in the country for over 20 years. After the Russians were 'kicked out', the government is placing another country's military equipment in the country. You can understand that Czech don't want to have foreign armies or their equipment operating in the country.

Just think how Americans would feel if Canadians started placing their missiles in Washington, Oregon or California to be "better protected" from North Korea.

What's the strangest or funniest situation you've had to deal with in your career as a diplomat?

LFF: Czech doesn't use the Euro because they haven't yet met the requirements to enter the single-exchange-rate mechanism, although there are currently plans in the works to begin the process in the next five years.

bustedsanta.. you definitely know much like me, that IF referendum about setting the tax rate to zero was issued, it would end up in the state budget being bancrupt due to the major YE vote in that issue.

The problems of the state defence CANNOT be decided by the simple refferendum. why are we having thee goverment if we have to vote ourselves?
