The page at the front of the UK passport?

The page that basically says that the holder of the passport has to be allowed to pass freely and with no problems by order of HRH queen Elizabeth. Does this statement carry any "kick"... I mean would it save you standing in a long que at a US airport or being random searched for no real reason?

If you are with the Queen, you are waved through a special entrance. If you are not with the queen, the que is the rule. You are not important, she is.

Once upon a time, the words meant something. If Johnny foreigner had dared to cause upset to us Britons we'd have sent in a gun boat. Now the Yanks kick us around but hey - our leaders can look forward to million dollar lecture tours when they retire.

Every passport in teh world has something similar. It is an anchronism that means absolutely nothing in this day and age.

no it just proves you are a legit brit

Mr curious
It is just a legal term. All Commonwealth Passports have this in their passport, except republics as the Queen is also their Queen.

It is there to make you feel superior. In some countries they realise that they cannot go over the top without intervention from the British Embassies etc. But does not really hold much weight

The page does not say that people have to be allowed to pass freely and it does not order anything. No country can order another country how to behave in there own territories. The respect with which this statement is treated depends on the respect with which we give to othef nations passports. I'e. They respect us we respect them. If the americans feel there security is at risk trhey have the right to take whatever measures they feel are necessary to protect themselves as do we.

You would think so, would't you?

This passage goes back centuries when Britain Ruled the waves. The passport was backed up by gunboat diplomacy and a file of Royal Marines.

Being British, a Scot actually, I would never consider myself to be a "citizen" of the United Kingdom of Great Britain.

I am a Subject, whether I like it or not, this is a constitutional monarchy despite the democratic process.

No - it just means that you are a British Citizen and that you are therefore afforded all and any rights bestowed upon British Citizens.

I t also allows you to stand in the long queue at the EEC Passport Holders lline instead of the long queue at the Foreign Passport Holders line when you enter a British airport!
