Question: If someone comes here from another country as guest of a friend from the same country,they over the course of time meet someone from America and they fall in love and want to apply for a change of status in the visa to a fiancee' visa,will the American Embassy ask for proof that this person is not already married in their homeland. If so, how can they prove that they are not married?
Has anyone ever been through or know anyone that has been through this situation? Thank you in advance. This is a serious question.

You cannot change a B2 visa into a fiance(e) (K-1) while in the US. The other party must go back home first and wait for the petition. That way the proof you are talking about is readily available in the home country. In some countries it is called a Certificate of Legal capacity to marry. I don't know what it is called in yours.**

I obviously depends on what records are available in the country or origin. But a tax filing return stating that the applicant is single might be a good idea. Some country also issue certificates of eligibilty to marry.
