UK Spouse Visa--Getting Married and Moving to the UK from US?

I am getting married in June 2009. I currently live in the US and am a US citizen. I am marrying a South African guy who has an ancestral visa in the UK (valid until 2012). What I am wondering is, how is the best way to obtain a visa to live in the UK and work? Would it be better to wait to apply until we get married and I move there? Or should we get married before our actual wedding to start the application process before I move there? Any advice on this will help. I am not sure how to go about getting a visa to live there and work after we get married. Thanks.

Quite a complex one that. Your best bet would be to go to the Immigration Advisory Service website and go through their questions and answers. I would advise you to go to a EU country after you marry and register there first.Then come to the UK on an EU Permit. Ireland(Southern or Eire) is probably best. The Home Office make it very difficult for South Africans because they fear their brutal honesty and determination.The English are so very anti immigrant now and you will not feel welcome-regardless of whatever you hear. This is a fact.I am a British born and bred white male.I lived in SA for 29years and have a SA accent and I am discriminated against on a daily basis.My wife of 24 years was removed from my country because of visa problems. My children face unreal discrimination too.My son was humiliated on a bus full of people by the driver and told to go back to his own country.You get it all over.Be well aware of this.You do get some lovely people too but few and far between-I'm here so that's one nice bloke.Why do you want to live in the UK when you have so much more in the US?The English are really peeved about immigration and asylum seekers and you will not find it welcoming at all.Good luck though. www.ias.org.uk
