UN Ambassador or Ambassador who has higher rank?

I was wondering who of the two has more superiority and why cos my mom says that a regular ambassador has more superiority than a UN ambassador for the same country.

How is that soo. What makes one more important than the other. If that's the case does this mean that all UN positions are not as important as their respective countries

There are several points here. The United States Ambassador to the United Nations is usually a cabinet-level appointment, therefore above other US Ambassadors. Otherwise, a country's Ambassador to the United Nations may or may not have seniority to that country's other Ambassadors Otherwise, the rule is that each country's ambassador in a country has the same importance as every other country's., Ranking is only by seniority in date of appointment. This obviously flies in the face of fact, but makes for smoother functioning.of relations between countries, just as each country's vote having the same value in the UN General Assembly does.

Permanent Representatives (to the UN) are often erroneously described as 'ambassadors'; although a Permanent Representative holds the personal rank of an ambassador, he or she is accredited to an international organisation, (like the UN) and not to a Head of State (as an ambassador would be) or to a Head of Government (as a High Commissioner would be). So yes, Mom was right.
