I am applying for a Visa with university to go to america for a year and work there.
I am applying and doing all the forms but one thing is concerning me
A year or so back, i did not buy a train ticket (was expecting to buy on train due to train station being so busy), but train was soo rammed didnt get asked for a ticket.. (was fully willing to pay etc)
As i got off there were gaurds etc.. and i got my purse out expecting to pay but they literally gave no-one the chance to pay and held back around 30 people and basicaly we got statements taken and i presume we were cautioned.
Im sure he said the whole 'you do not have to say anything.. etc etc'
took a statement and let me be on my way.. i then recieved a letter in the post telling me to pay a fine etc.. paid it.. and thats all i ever heard.
But when applying for the visa i am asked the question;
Have you ever been arrested or convicted for any offense or crime, even though subject of a pardon, amnesty or other similar legal action?
I do not know if what happened to me counts?
Ive rang the BTP and the man on phone told me he didnt 'think' that it mattered as it was a verbal caution and although a statement was made, i was not handcuffed or taken anywhere
I do not want to declare this if it means nothing and make somethign of nothing... but i dont want to go through the whole process and find out i wont get a visa..
HELP!!

Do not worry about this, it is not a conviction for a crime. You were not arrested. You were fined for a civil infraction. I very much doubt it will show up in any records check but if it does say you asked BTP and they told you it didn't matter it was a verbal caution.
This is such a minor matter no one will care even if you did declare it. |
