A visa will be required and must be applied for IN PERSON at least one month before departure. You can apply at either: the Consular section of the Chinese Embassy, 31 Portland Place, London W1B 1QD, or at the Consulate General, Denison House, 49 Denison Road, Rusholme, Manchester M14 5RX, or at the Consulate General, 55 Corstorphine Road. Edinburgh EH12 5QG. You will need to complete the application form (available online, first link below) and affix a recent, passport size photo to it. Before applying, ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months, then present passport and form, together with the appropriate fee (they accept CASH ONLY). Tourist Visas for UK nationals cost: £30 for single-entry and £45 for double-entry. A tourist visa is normally valid for three months from the date of issue. Processing time is normally 4 working days, but for a 'same day' service, you will pay an additional £20 per person and for a '1 day service', an extra £15 per person.
