Hi, I came to the US from Brazil with a J-1 visa (Au Pair). Last year I applied for a F-1 visa (Student) and was granted the change of status in February. The thing is, I don't have the stamp on my passport, only the papers from the USCIS saying that I have a permission to stay.
I know that if I go back home to visit, I'd have to be interviewed at the Consulate and get a visa on my passport in order to re-entry the country, and there's a chance my request can be denied.
Is there anyone who applied for a change of status in the US and went back to their country and got a stamp on their passport? If so, what kind of documents did you show? What kind of questions did they ask? In brief, just tell me your experience.
I'd love to hear from any Brazilian who did that, but if you're from another place, feel free to share your story.
I really want to go home to visit, but I'm afraid I won't be able to come back.

Is there a chance you'll be denied? Yes, but if you're doing what you're supposed to do as a student, studying full time, not working illegally, you shouldn't have much of a problem getting a student visa. |

If you are applying for student vise from USA, as i think you already did and of course you do not have a visa in your passport, is the same thing as being au pair for the second year. You can go, but again nobody can guarantee you will come back. Especially, because you were doing all your papers from here and you did not go home to do it from there!! Everything is on them, if they would like you or no, if they find just one reason why shouldn't they let you come back, because is the same thing as when you first applied for visa, from your country. You needed to give them a proof that you have a reason to come back to your country, proof that you ARE NOT trying to immigrate to USA.
I think the best thing would be to stay where you are, finish what you are doing and then go back, if you want to go. |
