Wanting to be a Diplomat? What jobs to do?

After school when I hopefully do course in university such as International Studies/Arts Law etc.. it would be great to have a job that I can do to help me with my ambition of becoming a diplomat (foreign service officer). What jobs would be a good way to help me?

The State Department has tests regularly. You will want to take one of these. you can go right into DoS right after college, I have seen people who did just that. There are also intern programs where you can work for them, even overseas, during the summer months to get more experience. This is likely unpaid though your expenses will be met.

I had the chance to test while working at the US Embassy in Tajikistan but I am too close to retirement to want to do that. :-)
