Treaties are usually unfair on the country who lose the war. Look what it did to Germany. This was Karma. |

Yes, it's generally acknowledged that the treaty was so harsh that it caused the problems with the German economy that led to Hitler's rise to power and WWII.
The French were the ones that insisted on the harshness and Wilson was ill and gave in to them.
There are a number of fascinating books about this. |

Yes. If we wanted reparations, we should just have taken over Germany by right of conquest. I could go on about the rise of Hitler, but I won't. |

Of course. They were invited to sign, no discussion allowed. The signers were then labeled "the november criminals". It was the root cause of WW2. |

It was very unfair. Germany was stripped of it's colonies, and made to pay for the war. Germany became the poorest country in Europe. Record inflation followed and very high unemployment. The Communist party tried to exploit this situation to take control of the country. Germany was the underdog of Europe, and made it a prime target for Hitler. to take full control. |

yes, pushed germany in corner, depression, people would listen to anyone who would give them hope,
and along came ONE MAN, yes one man can make a diff, a terrible difference, yes it was too much punishment on the german people as a hole and a germany recovering from the efects of war that all come to realize the GOOD, the BAD and the UGLY... |

Yes I think it was, however you have to consider the mood at the time. All protagonists were worn out, broke, and had decimated their man power. People had had enough. You must also remember that while Germany is blamed for starting the first world war it would not have happened if Britain allowed Germany to have a navy of any size and let Germany ally herself to Britain as she wanted to. So yes in a way it was unfair and laid the ground work for the next war. |

I hope this is related to academia rather than just your interest in something that happened almost 100 years ago.
Maybe the unfairness factor was overplayed by Hitler when he led the Munich Putsch. Don't forget that 13 million people died at the hands of German aggression. The most pointless, tragic war of all time WW1 was. |
