What Happens if you lie to a consulate about place of residence?

It would all together much more convenient for me to have a visa interview in a different state than the one that has jurisdiction over mine. If I lie to a different consulate and get an interview, can they find out if I was a lie and what are the consequences?

Nothing much. Your visa will be denied and you will be black-listed. They have a way of knowing. Imagine you get your visa only to be denied entry when you reach the country. Then sent back home.

Well, that's why the embassy has 90 days processing period of the petitions or whatever paperworks so they can check if everything is real. If you lie, then they will give you a hard time and the biggest punishment is to put your names in the blacklist.
