What are the U.S. entry document requirements from Canada?

I am travelling by Greyhound Canada to the U.S. (New York City) and Greyhound insists that I need two separate pieces of identification and that my valid Canadian passport will not be sufficient. Is this true? I have travelled many times before and my valid passport has always been sufficient. Is this a new rule? Or can I travel with just my valid passport?

Additional Details
I was born in Canada so I wouldn't have a citizenship card (they are usually for immigrants). Is a valid Canadian passport (for a Canadian citizen who was born in canada) good enough by itself for travel to the United States? Yes or no? (It should be because no document can trump a passport.)
