What are the citizenship requirements for the U.K?

Do you have to have a british parent or grandparent? Does Commonwealth membership convey any rights? I am from South Africa.

If you have a British Parent then you may be eligible for citizenship depending on when and where you were born and whether your parents declared your birth to the UK at the time.

If you have a British Grandparent then you may be eligible for a UK Ancestry visa however it is unlikely that you would be eligible for citizenship. A UK Ancestry visa would allow you to live and work in the UK for 5 years after which time you may be eligible for Indefinite Leave to Remain.

Your other options include a working holiday visa, work permit or highly skilled migrant visa.

Well generally if you have British parents, it is quite easy to attain British cirizenship. If your country is in the commonwealth or formerly was, it is generally easier than if you are from a country that isn't from the commonwealth. Anyways you should check out their citizenship website mate.
