Okay,so I'm going in summer as aupair to Great Britain.As it looks now my family will be southwest of London.I'm not doing it over an agency,so there will be a few more things to organize then for agency aupairs.I looked for information days but in my region only agencies offer for "their" aupairs those days and there is no way they will give me an answer - i already tried.
Hopefully one of you guys coming from europe has been to GB as aupair previously and can answer my questions:
Which insurances do I need?
Can I pay with my regular EC card there or do I need traveller checks or how did you manage the money issue?
Through which category do I have to go when arriving at the british airport: tourist,citizen,or immigrant?
Do I have to go to any registry office and do I need to contact the government before I start there that i'm gonna stay for a year or after the first 6 months?
How did you call home and inside the US?Did you kept your cellphone and used your regular german chip for home calls and a uk chip for calling inside GB?
How many suitcases are you allowed to bring on the flight and how heavy are they allowed to be?
Do I need an aupair contract?And if yes then do I have to have the ready contract BEFORE the flight or once i'm there?Do I have to send the contract to the government?
Do I need a medical check before I go to GB or can I just go when I know I have all vaccinations?

You are an EU citizen so therefore you just pass through the EU channel. You don't have to declare why you are going to the UK. There are some important things you should do.
1. Apply for a National Insurance number. Here's how.

2. You should complete a P86 form to tell the tax authorities tat you are living in the UK. Here's the form.

3. You should open a UK bank account. It's very expensive to use your cards in the UK as you will be charged service charges and commission to charge Sterling to a Euro account. Open a Sterling account to manage your ££ transactions while in the UK. You can go into any UK bank and open an account. You will need proof of identity (passport, driving licence) and proof of residence (employment contract, letter from your employer).
You should definitely have a contract stating exactly how many hours you are required to work, your days off and what duties are included under your contract. It should also state your pay. This is a contract between you and your employer. You do not have to send it anywhere. You should make sure you have it finalised before you start work in the UK.
You do not need a medical or any special vaccinations to travel to the UK from Germany.
Your baggage allowance will depend on which airline you are flying with. Check online on their web site for details.
You can get a pay as you go chip in the UK to use for UK calls. Also check with your provider in Germany as many companies now do really cheap roaming deals within Europe. |
