What do you guys think of someone having dual citizenship?

i think it is super ! i too have dual citizenship, my kids do as well and since last year? the new one in the family: grand-sonâ™¥.............
he also does ;i love it, wait until to my ex son-in-law finds out !OMG ! :-)

i love both .of my countries at the same level ,

I'm going to go against the grain here, and certainly NOT get Best Answer, by saying I'm strongly against it. I didn't used to feel that way, but after working overseas for many years, with dual nats (American plus <other nationality>) being the focus of the work, I came to believe that it's good for individuals, bad for nations.
And, being someone who loves her country very much, I believe that you can't truly love your country (as I think it should be loved, anyway) and pledge loyalty to others. Also, sad to say, most of the dual nats I have known treated citizenship like a club (i.e. the more passports the better, b/c it enables me to pick and choose the benefits I want to take from each country).

For those of you who are Americans, tell me, honestly, how does it benefit the U.S. for us to have millions of people in our midst who are also pledged to defend, support, etc foreign nations?

So, I guess it comes down to what you think citizenship is all about.

I think its neat, since I am a citizen of the philippines and Canada, never knew about dual passports tho.

I see no problem with it, as long as they respect and abide by the laws of this country. There have been people who have immigrated to this country from all around the world, but many of their relatives remain back in their home country. Dual Citizenship makes it easier to travel between the countries without having to get a visa.

I think in the coming decades we'll be grieved at what our changed citizenship policies have cost us (dual citizenship wasn't formerly permitted in the U.S.), if we can have an honest, open discussion of it. Which we won't be able to do.

I hold it (as well as my kids). I think it's great, I can use the advantages of both to get around (sometimes being one nationality will get certain advantages when travelling (such as free health care or a quicker path past customs/ immigration not to mention you may not need visas in some countries, also some countries may not let you in if they see that you've been to certain countries that they're not allied with). If you actually have dual you are subjected to both's laws (like you may have to vote at the embassy and such for the other country, or do a mandatory army service depending on which countries you hold).

Best of all we acknowledge both countries and accept the differences so our minds are broaded by the differences. I think that people who never travel can get stuck in one mode and can fail to appreciate the blessed life they have. For my kids I prefer them to have it because (in my pesimistic view) what happens if something happens to me or my husband (god forbid) and then we want to move back home? They'll also get the option of going to university in another country (and considered as a home student) or staying with relatives for a few months when they're older as well.

BTW It's not only those holding dual nationalites who "treat it like a club" but some with singular or ones holding nationality with undesirable countries.
