It's a full-page sticker in your passport that looks very much like the machine readable personal details page of your passport. These days, most visas do.

"The Dark Side" is fully right. All visa issued by countries of the European Union are stickers affixed to the passport which require a complete empty passport page.

It always amuses me reading questions about "visa stamping" by some Indian/Philippine kids who have never travelled but are asking questions as if they've been travelling around the world..
