I am a live in cargiver in canada, my emplyer is taking me with them to the US, so I applied for one,I have just been issued a 1 year multi[ple entry US tourist visa but it has an annotation stating "Personal or Domestic servant of a non-immigrant alien". What does this statement mean? Can I travel to the US without my employer or I can travel to trhe Us only if my employer is around?please help, need some answers..thanks

Your visa was issued on the basis of your employment - hence the annotation. If you tried to travel without your employer, the greatest probability is that you would be stopped and turned back, the visa would be canceled, and derogatory information would be added to your file. |

you are not free to travel due to that mark. sorry the us does not have live in servant classificaton.

If a visa is issued, the domestic must accompany the employer to the U.S or follow to join the employer. Qualifying domestics are issued limited validity B-1 nonimmigrant visas annotated to identify the domestic employee and the employer. In some cases, the Embassy may place the contract in an envelope and attach it to the domestic’s passport for INS inspection. While in the U.S these accompanying domestic employees may not transfer or be transferred to another employer without permission of INS. If an employee abandons the employer in the U.S, this must be reported immediately to the INS and the Embassy to avoid further consequences for the employer.
A personal or domestic servant who is accompanying or following to join a foreign employer who seeks admission into or is already in the U.S. in B, E, F, H, I, J, L, M, O, P, or R nonimmigrant status (The consular officer will annotate "personal or domestic servant of nonimmigrant alien (employer's name)" on the B-1 visa);
It means you got this visa to accompany your employer and not alone :-( |
